COVID-19 in Ireland
The daily count of new COVID-19 cases in Ireland has topped 1,000, the first time since April (not counting N. Ireland which had 900+ of its own). Meanwhile, on Saturday there was an anti-lockdown protest here in Dublin that sounded very tense… thankfully only a few minor incidents of violence occurred. Unless these trends level off and/or reverse soon, the government will likely tighten up restrictions even further. Yesterday evening on the 2nd floor of a building across the street there was some sort of private party or event… the people seemed dressed up, there were both adults and children in attendance, perhaps it was a wedding reception? They definitely were not practicing social distancing or wearing facemasks.

On a lighter note, the bathroom shelves ended up working even better than expected. There were 4 pole segments used to construct the support pole, so I just left one out and that solved the height issue — no sawing or modification necessary! And the cordless lighted vanity mirror is useful, although I have to stoop down to get close enough for the magnification to come into focus. Even when not using the mirror, the extra light it gives off helps although the bathroom is still very dim.

Also, the super-duper magical hands-free voice activated rubbing/recycling bin has made a big difference in the kitchen. Although the automatic opening/closing seems over-the-top, it actually comes in quite handy (or should I saw handless?). I’m repurposing the plastic round bin for glass recycling; I still haven’t found where the closest “bring bank” is for that.

It’s now Sunday morning / early afternoon, and the sky above Dublin is blue with scattered clouds. Usually it’s very quiet in the mornings, with only the sound of seagulls and street sweepers interrupting the peace. Crow Street is lifeless for the most part. I haven’t left the apartment in a few days, but I think I’ll go for a short walk later (this is allowable under the self-quarantine requirements). I am very much looking forward to being able to get out and explore more soon!
Wow! Impressed by the improvements in the flat! Chapeau!
