Ringsend, Irishtown, Sandymount + meatloaf

My last late-night / early-morning DBT group session went well, but it took me awhile to get back to sleep. As a result, I let myself sleep in late this morning. The weather is clear out again, and almost on cue, I receive a text from my walking buddy CJ to ask if I’m available. We agree to meet up for a walk around 1:30. Today is back to the southeast but past the Docklands to the neighborhoods of Ringsend, Irishtown and Sandymount.

On the way, we grab sandwiches for a take-away lunch at a small deli place called The Pig and the Heifer:

Crossing over the Grand Canal in the Docklands:

Passing by the legendary Windmill Lane recording studio where many of U2’s albums were recorded as well as other Irish groups:

Crossing over the Dodder River to Ringsend:

A large bar/pub in the center of the Irishtown neighborhood (looks like my phone’s camera lens was a little foggy on the right):

The Sandymount Beach:

Walking back we pass through the very charming Sandymount village that’s built around a square:

Having clocked in almost 10,000 steps, we decide to take a bus from Sandymount back to Dublin city centre.

Views of Ringsend’s St. Patrick’s Catholic Church:

Maps for reference (sorry, I didn’t make make note of any landmarks, but at least this gives a general idea of where we walked):

We hop off the bus around Trinity College Dublin then head back into Temple Bar. It’s already growing dark and getting chilly. CJ suggests stopping by The Palace Bar for a hot rum, and I don’t put up any protest. After our libations, we part ways with an elbow bump and head our respective directions.

Back home at the apartment, I have a couple of tasks — it’s rubbish night and also the cutoff for my weekly SuperValu delivery. As I open the door to go back inside Spranger’s Yard, an elderly short Irish gentleman follows me in. I haven’t seen him before and ask him if he lives here, to which he responds “Well yes, for the last 25 years.” I mention that I’m in the apartment next to Irene, to which he shakes his head and mutters her name… there must be some history between these two long time tenants.

For dinner tonight, I decide on a cheesy beef tomato glazed meatloaf with air fried green beans on the side:

Until next time…
