Delay in yesterday’s post; afternoon stroll today

inadvertently missed the cutoff for publishing yesterday’s post, which seems to be around 10:00pm Dublin time. I had written it earlier in the day but failed to click “publish” so it was still in draft mode. So I guess anyone who has subscribed to the blog via email will receive two posts today in one blast.

The building fire alarm went off last night at 2:30am, as it had when I had first moved in. Thankfully it was a false alarm again that only lasted a couple of minutes, and I was able to go back to sleep quickly. Still I slept in a little bit as a result, but not too late. After my usual morning routine, I decided to trim up my beard since I won’t be able to get a haircut until next week and I’m feeling somewhat ungroomed. I’ve been trimming my beard manually with scissors, and it takes awhile but I’m getting better at it. The battery-operated wall lights I put up in the bathroom help, but I wish they were brighter. I wonder if there’s a way to replace the LED element in them? One of them has fallen off the wall a couple of times, so I’ll need to use something more robust than the 3M mounting strips that came with the hooks I’ve used to hang the lights on the tiled wall above the bathroom sink. The electrical power strip I’ve routed into the bathroom is also falling off the wall despite the sticky tack and adhesive strips I’ve tried using on it. I suspect the moisture from the shower is the culprit. Alas, I’ll have to tackle these household challenges on another day.

My walking buddy CJ and I meet up this afternoon. I hadn’t seen him since he had come over for Thanksgiving dinner last week. We have a pleasant 1.5 hour stroll on the northside, which isn’t new territory but was close enough to the city centre for a short loop. We discuss planning a day trip further afield using the DART commuter train now that the 5 km travel restriction has been lifted. It’s getting dark around 4:30pm now, so we’d need to head out in the morning to make a day trip worth it. A trip to out to Howth near the oceanside would be an easy destination.

Today’s weather is chilly, mid to upper 40s but clear. Tomorrow’s high will be in the upper 30s F, which will be the coldest it’s been since my arrival. As of now, the forecast for next week looks more wet, so it’s good that I got out today.

I’m planning on meeting up with my newer friend D this evening for some take-away dinner and some sort of surprise he has planned. Stay tuned for more details on that!
