Kilmainham gardens

It’s clear and relatively warm today. My walking buddy CJ and I meet up to take advantage of the good weather before the rain returns. We take the Luas / light rail westward out to Heuston Station to explore some gardens around the nearby suburb of Kilmainham, which was where the Knights Templar settled in the 12th century.

The Gardens at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham (the hospital dates back to the 17th century):

The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) is located adjacent to the gardens, and some of the museum’s outdoor sculptures are exhibited there:

Bully’s Acre, a site that has served as a graveyard for over a thousand years:

The exit from the gardens out to the suburb of Kilmainham:

The Irish National War Memorial Gardens:

A view of the River Liffey from a bridge crossing over from the garden side to the Phoenix Park side, with housing developments dotting the riverside:

Walking back on the north side of the Liffey, we pass by this wall advertisement for Guinness (the brewery is located just to the south on the other side of the river):

After parting ways with CJ, I decide to do some shopping afterwards for some random kitchen/household items. The Arnotts on Marys Street is decorated in its full holiday splendor:

Until next time…
