Sunday walk to Docklands, more couch potato time, COVID-19 cases surge again

It’s extraordinarily bright out today, the sky is a cloudless blue, although the wind is chilly. My friend J and I meet up and walk down to the Docklands. There are few people out in this part of Dublin compared to the packed shopping districts. We have lunch at a Boojum burrito bar location facing the Grand Canal. There are a few tables out front that are already taken, so we opt to stay inside where we have the entire dining space to ourselves.

We pass by a festive oversized Christmas tree ornament that serves as a whimsical public space complete with lights and bench in front of Brew Dog (a Scottish style brew pub I still haven’t tried yet):

…also, the Facebook building at the Docklands:

We circle back to the apartment, having clocked in about 8,000+ steps, and hang out for the rest of the afternoon doing our usual lazy routine of watching TV as couch potatoes. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to all seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race via my streaming services; some of the newer seasons are on CBS All Access, which I don’t have. Apparently all seasons are available to Netflix subscribers here. Licensing can be so annoying. We end up watching several episodes of the show Community, which I had never seen before. The silly, light hearted sitcom humor is a good break from the doom and gloom of the world.
Speaking of which, the number of new COVID-19 cases in Ireland continues to surge:

The government hasn’t made a final decision about tightening up restrictions again, but it sounds like it will be soon after Christmas and before New Year’s Eve. While it’s been great to be somewhere that feels more “normal” than many places in the world, I am still wary of dining indoors around lots of other people and being in crowded shops. My friend D invites me out for beers with him and some friends later in the evening at a pub (presumably one that serves food and hence can get around the restrictions), and as much as I’d like to socialise more and meet some new people, I decide to pass on the opportunity. Better safe than sorry.

Until next time…
