Yesterday morning, January 1st, I woke up with sinus pressure behind my nose and lower temple, so I took an Advil Cold & Sinus tablet. After taking a shower and getting dressed, I started to feel dizzy/tired, like my body wanted to go back to bed. I ended up skipping the brunch at my friend O’s friends’ place and instead slept most of day. My temperature has been normal, and I still have sense of taste and smell, so no obvious COVID-19 symptoms. In the early evening I got up to have something to eat but then went back to bed where I stayed until this morning.
This morning I woke up feeling OK, still no fever and the sinus pressure seems to have dissipated. I shower, dress and have some breakfast — not a huge appetite but some fruit and quiche, which tasted good. Out of an abundance of caution, we’ve been maintaining social distance in the apartment, and I’ve been wearing a mask in common areas along with using hand sanitizer regularly. This afternoon we go for a walk to Strasbourg city centre’s on the Grande Île (“Large Island”) surrounded on one side by the Ill River and a canal on the other. This is where the city’s iconic single-spired cathedral is located as well as its famous Christmas markets, which unfortunately were closed this year. There are still lots of holiday decorations up, including a real Christmas tree on Place Kléber (the central square). On the way back, I stop into a boulangerie/bakery that’s been operated on the sane site since 1279 for a couple of chocolate croissants to take home.
