There’s a job application on my to-do list with a submission deadline today. I’ve created a spreadsheet to list all the various qualifications and competencies I’ve used on past resumes/CVs, so that I can more easily pick and choose the most relevant ones for a specific job description. This speeds up the process considerably. I finish customizing my cover letter and CV in about an hour or so, then submit it around mid-day so that I have the rest of the afternoon free.
I’m determined to get out for a walk given the favourable weather. My walking buddy CJ joins and we head out eastward to stop at the Pig & Heifer Deli on Pearce Street to get sandwiches to go. From there we walk another 5 or so minutes to Merrion Square. There are a fair number of people out, but we manage to find a bench where we can sit and eat. We’ve been talking a lot about career and job hunting, although our conversations touch on family and other subjects. We finish up lunch and take a walk down Merrion Street then Baggot Street towards the Grand Canal. The Gardai have stopped a car along our route; they’re being much more strict about the 5 km travel restriction and can issue €100 fines for non-compliance. We also pass by the main entrance of the government buildings that house the Department of the Taoiseach. Surprisingly I’ve never seen it from the front.
When we reach the Grand Canal, we turn right heading westward to make a loop back to the city centre. We pass by lots of shiny glass buildings housing tech companies (including LinkedIn and Zendesk). There’s a lot of new construction, and I’m surprised to see some workers still on site given the tightening of COVID restrictions… I wonder how a construction project is determined to be “essential” and allowed to proceed?
On the way back homeward, I stop into a grocery store called “Fresh” that CJ has recommended for their reasonable pre-made meals that cost €10 for two. They are allegedly made with high quality ingredients so I pick up a singapore noodle and chicken fettuccine. This will help tide me over to my next SuperValu grocery delivery that isn’t until next Tuesday.
For dinner tonight, I make a modified version of an Italian wedding soup recipe with meatballs and escarole topped with parmesan cheese that I used to make frequently in SF. The meatballs are pre-made, and the escarole is from a bagged Italian salad mix, so it’s not a particularly complicated meal. It turns out more or less how I remember it tasting. I serve it with some leftover soda bread that I lightly toast and butter.
Until next time….
