Tolka Valley Park, Glasnevin Cemetery and Botanical Gardens

Another typical Friday for me — I follow my usual morning routine of breakfast and news, then my weekly SuperValu grocery order arrives, delivered by someone new this time.

Some sunlight is peeking through the clouds, but it’s still blustery and cold out. My friend CJ texts, suggesting to meet up for a walk in the afternoon. I meet him on his side of the Liffey around 2:00pm, then we take the Luas light rail to the northwest, getting get off at the last stop (Broombridge) alongside the Royal Canal. Our first destination is the Tolka Valley Park, a riverfront green space and walking/biking path. Sheltered from the wind by the sloping river banks, we walk downstream and eventually cross over into the Glasnevin Cemetery and Botanical Gardens, which I’ve been wanting to visit again. There are some folks scattered about, but it’s not crowded. We head out of the Botanical Garden’s main entrance to a cafe across the way for some coffee to warm us up, then we hop on a bus back to the city centre. In all we clock in around 9,000 steps, which isn’t bad given our late start.

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Ireland has stubbornly plateaued in the 800-1000 range. Lockdown restrictions won’t be lifted until the numbers decrease to 100-200, which given currently projections won’t be until after Easter / early April.

On a more positive note, the thermal hiking socks I ordered earlier in the week were delivered today. I’m already trying one pair out this evening to see how well they keep my feet warm during the chilly evenings.

Until next time….
