Grey day, walk to Smithfield

It’s been an uneventful day. I sleep in late and wake up with a really sore back. I try laying down on my back stretcher for 15 minutes, and that seems to help somewhat. However, I also notice that my leg/hip makes a sound when I lift it up off the floor… I’m pretty sure this is “snapping hip” from what I read online. There are some stretches that can help, but I’m ashamed to admit that I find them very difficult (if not impossible to do) given how tight my muscles are. What I wouldn’t give for a massage!

Some dust bunnies are starting to appear in the apartment, which is my cue to do a “hoovering” (vacuuming) and a general cleaning around the place. The recycling bin for glass is almost at capacity, so I use that as an excuse to get out for a walk to the closest “bottle bank” in Smithfield. It’s a very grey day in Dublin, but no sign of any snow as had been forecasted for today.

A view from the Father Mathew Bridge looking westward towards Phoenix Park (apparently this is the site of the original, and for many years only, bridge of Dublin dating back to the 11th century):

A funny little building along the Luas (light rail) line near Smithfield, across from the bottle bank:

The Smock Alley Theatre that boasts a legacy dating back to 1662 (although the building it currently occupies only dates back to the 19th century):

A panoramic shot of Four Courts (which still houses the principal seat of the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the High Court and the Dublin Circuit Court) — the original building dating back to 1776 was destroyed during the Irish Civil War and almost a thousand years of archives along with it, but it was rebuilt after the war and is currently undergoing some restoration work on the dome:

Map of the area:

I manage to clock in about 6,000 steps, which isn’t bad for a short walk. I’m a little under my goal for the week to average 5,000 steps per day. Given the yucky weather, I think I’ve made a good effort nonetheless.

Until next time….
