More moody weather, picking out some Irish ciders to try

The weather has continued to be moody, with sunshine this morning then dark clouds and rain off and on. I let myself sleep in late and putter around the apartment most of the day. My average steps for the week have been falling behind, so I do get out for a short walk in the afternoon. There are some people out and about, more so than during the week, but the city still feels subdued. Some pubs have been serving pints and other alcohol to go, although I haven’t noticed many people congregating outside as they did before the holidays. Most pubs, like the Foggy Dew on Fownes Street that runs under my building, remain boarded up.

For my walk I head to St. Stephens Green and back, stopping by the Dunnes grocery shop nearby for a few small items. I haven’t tried any ciders since my arrival to Dublin, so I pick out a couple new ones I haven’t had before. Despite its reputation for beer, Ireland has a lot of cider offerings, including ones that are mass produced as well many smaller craft labels. Bulmers is probably the most well known and widespread. My first pic is Inch’s Stonehouse Strong Dry Cider, which sounds appealing because it shouldn’t be overly sweet;  apparently it’s brewed by Bulmers. The second is Rockshore, which is actually brewed by Guinness that also makes an Irish lager under the same Rockshore label. I’ve heard good things about their cider, namely that again it’s not too sweet.

As I exit Dunnes, it’s raining lightly and starting to get dark, which with the days getting longer is now after 6:00pm. Earlier in the afternoon I put my sheets in the washing machine, and the laundry cycle takes about 5 hours — I’m waiting for them to dry now so I can remake the bed. (Thank goodness the apartment has a dryer!)  It’s another quiet evening at home, socialising with friends over text messages and settling in on the couch to watch some TV.

Until next time….
