Cleaning day, virtual happy hour

My only ambition for Saturday is to do a deep spring cleaning of the apartment. I have been sweeping and vacuuming the floors throughout the apartment regularly but only mopping the kitchen and bathroom floors. However, I just realised that the cleaner I found in a cabinet when I first moved is also safe for the laminate flooring in the living room, bedrooms and hallways. Now all the floors are shining and smooth, whereas before there was always a residual “gritty” feeling no matter how much I swept and vacuumed. There’s also mildew/mold beginning to grow in some of the hard-to-reach spots of the sliding shower doors in the bathroom. Earlier in the week I had picked up some bathroom cleaner containing bleach and a long narrow scrubbing brush that took care of that in short order. It took a solid two hours to finish everything, which is much more do-able than cleaning an entire house.

As I’m winding down from cleaning, it’s time for my friend M’s weekly internet radio show featuring mostly hits from the 1980s. I had thrown out the idea to him of doing a special duets-only themed show and even compiled a list of a couple dozen songs that came to mind. To my surprise, he ended up doing the show and used almost all my song suggestions! I made a gin and tonic, sat down on the couch, put my feet up, and enjoyed the tunes. The internet radio station also has a chat room feature, so I logged into that as well and traded a few quips with other listeners. It made for a pleasant stay-at-home “happy hour.”

For dinner, I ordered a kebab wrap and some garlic chips/fries from Zaytoons, a Persian restaurant  not far away — it took only 20 minutes for it to arrive. I relax at home for the rest of the evening, chatting with friends over texts and watching some TV. Before going to bed, I set out some tulips and an Easter greeting card in front of my neighbor Irene’s gate so that she would find them in the morning. She has been so thoughtful in leaving treats for me on holidays such as Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day, I thought it would only be fitting to reciprocate.

Until next time….
