Lazy Easter Monday, snow/sleet, and violent protests in N. Ireland

A cold snap has hit Ireland again. It’s been sunny off and on today, with some brief snow/sleet this afternoon. I’m feeling lazy after the long walk and having a late dinner yesterday. This morning, I receive a notification that a package from Amazon UK has been dispatched for delivery today. I wasn’t expecting it until tomorrow, and it was supposed to be delivered to my Mail Boxes Etc. address but they are closed for the Easter Monday holiday. The delivery person calls me around noon from in front of Mail Boxes Etc., and I give him my home address (Eircode) so that he can deliver it later in the day. I had made tentative plans to meet up a friend for coffee this afternoon, although given the weather I’m glad to have an excuse to stay in.

Photos from last night’s Easter dinner…

The reverse-seared method worked great on the lamb leg steaks… I cooked them in my mini oven at 250 F for 45 minutes, until internal temperature reached 140 F, then seared each side for about a minute on a smoking hot pan:

Over the last few days, violent protests have taken place in Belfast and Derry in Northern Ireland, as reported in The Guardian and The Irish Times. Although attributed to tensions within the UK loyalist community after Brexit, it sounds like the protests have been mostly started by young people who are bored during lockdown and just trying to stir up trouble. Protestors have thrown bricks/rocks and petrol bombs during the riots, and several police have been injured. Hopefully things settle down soon.

Until next time….
