Rainy Sunday; casual hang-out with a friend at home

The forecasted snow doesn’t materialise this morning, and instead, there’s a light rain throughout the day. Surprisingly, I haven’t used an umbrella the whole time I’ve been here. A good rain jacket with a hood suffices for most days, especially given how the rain comes and goes.

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve seen my friend J. He comes over in the afternoon for our usual hang-out routine — order some food, watch some TV, and be bums on the couch. For food we pick up some burritos from Boojum a couple of blocks away; it’s tasty and filling as always. For TV, we catch up on Wanda Vision (the new Marvel series on HBO Max), then revert to our usual of re-watching Drag Race. Casual and familiar company is one of the things I miss most during lockdown, so it’s a welcome change from what’s been a mostly boring past week.

The current “level 5” lockdown restrictions in Ireland are set to be reassessed on March 5th, but Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Micheál Martin has said that it’s unlikely there will be a major re-opening until later. It all depends on vaccines, which unfortunately have been slow to roll out in Ireland and the EU in general. Given the next few months are probably going to be much of the same lockdown routine (i.e., spending lots of time at home), I’m leaning heavily towards going for a Certified Management Accounting (CMA) qualification. If I can pass the exams sometime in May/June, then at least I’ll have something to show for my time. There are a few study/preparation programs out there, and I think having a structured approach would give me a better chance of passing first time. And if I start studying now then I should be well enough prepared (fingers crossed).

Here’s an outside view of my building, Sprangers Yard — my apartment is in the middle of the three upper floors, the one with the three lit-up windows.

Until next time….
