Sunnier weather, walk to Smithfield

I sleep in late this morning after having binge watched a new show on Netflix, “Halston,” about an iconic American fashion designer in the 1960s-1980s starring Ewan McGregor. After a slow start to my day, I get out in the afternoon for a walk to enjoy the sunshine. There’s much better weather today, despite a forecast for more rain, with highs in mid 50s F / low 10s C.  I head first to the nearest “bottle bank,” since I have some glass recycling to drop off, crossing over the familiar Essex / Grattan Street bridge:

A closed pub on Inns Quay (near Kings Inn) with colourful windows:

Some street art alongside the Luas light rail tracks:

I continue on to Smithfield Square, since I’m already heading in that direction, where I get a burrito from Boojum for lunch:

A remnant from Smithfield’s historic past as livestock centre — prior to 2013, the square held monthly horse fairs that now only take place twice a year:

Last night, a crowd of young people congregated on Crow Street and were being quite noisy… when I looked out the window to check out the comotion, I even noticed one lad urinating into a corner of a building across from Sprangers Yard. Around 10:30pm, a Garda vehicle arrived to the scene to disperse them. I can only imagine what Temple Bar will be like once things fully return to normal.

Allegedly, vaccine registration is opening up this week for the 40-50 age group. I’m not sure sure how far out appointments will be scheduled, but it will be encouraging all the same to know for certain when I’ll be able to get my jabs.

Until next time….
