The weather continues to be moody — throughout the day there are periods of sunshine, rain and even hailstorms. The forecast for the next few nights calls for low temperatures around freezing or slightly below. Even for Ireland, this weather seems late in the season.
Yesterday, I took a bus to an An Post collection point in the East Wall neighbourhood to pick up a package; the postal service had left a “sorry we missed you” notice in my mailbox last Friday, and since Monday was a holiday, this was the first chance I could pick it up. Given the weather and distance, I decided to take a bus — thankfully the stops are very close to my location in Temple Bar. I haven’t been through the East Wall area of Dublin before, and I found this summary from the TheJournal.ie: “At the turn of the eighteenth century, most of the area that today makes up East and North Wall was under the Irish Sea – at least at high tide. During the 1700s, though, city engineers built large walls – North and East Wall, to be exact – to contain the Liffey and its outflow into the ocean. In the process, they reclaimed large parcels of land which today form part of the heart of inner-city Dublin. People have lived here since it was, well, dry land – but most of today’s housing dates from the 1920s, when the Corporation [old name of Dublin city government] started building in a big way.”
St. Laurence O`Toole Catholic Church, named after Lorcán Ua Tuathail, who was Archbishop of Dublin at the time of the Norman invasion of Ireland in the 1100s (the church dates back to the 1844):

Today I had an interview for a Senior Administrator position at the University College Dublin’s Research Finance Office. It lasted for 40 minutes, and I think it went well. It’s a temporary position to cover an employee’s maternity leave. The manager of the department, and older gentleman, seemed to be impressed with my experience. They said they would be making a decision soon, although it’s not entirely clear if there would be another round of interviews or if that was it. Also, later in the day I received an email from the Outhouse inviting me for a second interview next week. Meanwhile, I have a week left before my first CMA exam and lots of studying/reviewing to do. All of a sudden, I feel rather busy. It’s good that the weather hasn’t been the greatest, so I don’t feel so bad for skipping out on walks.
Until next time….
