It’s been a productive day. I apply to a few more jobs on my to-do list, including one at the University College Dublin (UCD) National Virus Reference Laboratory — this is a different UCD position than the one for which I’ve already been invited to interview on May 4. I also start reviewing the lessons in the final section of my CMA study programme.
After staring at my laptop for a few hours, I head out for a walk to St. Stephens Green. The weather continues to be sunny and warm, with a high of 61 F / 16 C. The trees are finally filling out to their full green canopies. Lots of young people are gathered in small groups spread out on the lawn.
The shops on Grafton Street are still quiet, except for essential businesses:
The vaccine rollout is picking up its pace in Ireland. My neighbor Irene was out in her “garden” at the end of the outdoor hallway/deck of Sprangers Yard as I was heading out the door, and she mentioned that she got her first vaccine jab last week. Registration is opening up this week to people 60+ and all ages in the high risk category. Ireland surpassed 1 million doses yesterday, with roughly 20% of the population now having received at least one jab, tracking closely alongside other EU countries like France and Germany. It’s also expected that Ireland will approve the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine this week (the EU approved it last month, but each country can still choose which vaccines it will allow).
Until next time….
