Summer is in its final stretch. Work has been slow due to people being away on summer holidays. Weather is a perpetual conversation topic in Ireland. It’s been a mostly drab summer, with grey skies and rain. The August bank holiday was almost entirely a wash out. The forecast this week, however, is making amends for these past disappointments.
This past weekend my friend S. came to Dublin for a visit. He arrived by train in the early evening and met up with me and my friend CJ for happy hour at Pennylane on their patio. On Saturday, we enjoyed sleeping in late before heading out to brunch at Bibis Cafe (featured in a previous post) tucked away in the Portobello neighbourhood. We ordered a round of Aperol spritz (quite popular here) and leisurely enjoyed a scrumptious meal. Afterwards, we took a long walk along the Grand Canal that arcs along the southern boundary of Dublin city centre.
Sunday evening we checked out a new gay pub/bar that just opened in June — ”All My Friends” on Meath Street in The Liberties neighbourhood of the Dublin 8 district. They host a pub quiz (trivia night) on Sunday evenings, We arrived early to get a table and were met up with my friends CJ and B for a very brainy team of four. Unfortunately we lost out by a few points to the top three teams that all received prizes. Nevertheless, it was good craic.
Until next time….
