It’s been more good weather here in Dublin for the summer solstice today, despite forecasts for rain that have been postponed until later in the week. This morning an IT person from Jigsaw stopped by to pick up the unopened laptop and cell phone that had been delivered a couple of weeks ago. Still no word from University College Dublin yet. I ran a few errands in the afternoon to make copies of my apartment key (to swap with those of my friend CJ in case of emergency) and to find some bait or traps for the silverfish bugs that have been appearing in my bathroom, which is a common nuisance in Ireland.
Scenes of the Liffey:
For a late late / early supper, I made my pork stir-fry dish with bok choy, red pepper, cashews and noodles… it’s the first real cooking I’ve done for awhile. It takes forever to prep everything, but once it’s all ready to go it doesn’t take long to actually stir fry it. At least I have plenty of leftovers, so the effort will pay off for more than one meal.
Early this evening I meet up with my friend CJ for happy hour at The George, where I had made a booking when they first announced they would be opening a new outdoor space earlier this month. The George is the oldest and biggest gay bar in Ireland that dates back to 1985, eight years before homosexuality was legalised in the country. Since there’s no space in the front for outdoor seating, they converted a small smoking area located behind of the building into a very pleasant private patio. The crowd is a very mixed crowd, fairly evenly split between men and women (and some genders in between), and fairly diverse as to age and ethnic backgrounds. The following photos don’t fully capture this, as I try to be discrete about including people, but I wanted to give some sense of the place.
Until next time….
